Q: Was your stay at Jolley Hotel a spontaneous decision?
A: Not at all. Actually, I had reserved this time period back in September when I returned from Boracay. I was swept along by work and scheduling commitments until recently, when I finally made the stay happen. In a way, this visit felt like "finally my turn."
Q: What was your first impression upon entering the room?
A: Silence. I could distinctly feel that the air itself was quiet. Though this is a business hotel in the city, the clean light and restrained design aesthetic immediately put me at ease upon entry.
Q: I understand that a particular desk in the room played an important role during your stay.
A: Indeed (laughs). That desk has wonderful design sensibility, with an expansive work surface and beautifully soft lighting. With an early check-in, I had ample time to handle work matters, enjoy coffee, and organize my thoughts. Gradually, my work rhythm became more natural, and the time felt less pressured. It was a sensation of being gently cradled by time itself.
Q: You also completed an artwork during this period?
A: Yes. That painting essentially documents my emotional state since August. It's like gradually collecting fragments of this time period into the canvas. While painting at Jolley Hotel, there were minimal external distractions, and my mind was clear—which is tremendously important for creative work.
Q: Beyond the creative process, were there memorable details about the accommodation itself?
A: The nights were remarkably quiet, and the bed was wonderfully comfortable. Though I occasionally heard some city sounds, they didn't disturb my rest. The breakfast the next morning was particularly delightful, especially the warm congee and freshly pressed fruit juice. That feeling of being genuinely cared for was truly therapeutic.
Q: Who would you recommend Jolley Hotel to?
A: It's ideal for business travelers or those needing a brief respite to quiet their minds and organize their thoughts. The room rates are mid- to premium, but the overall experience is exceptionally refined. From the lighting to the amenities and service, you can sense the thoughtfulness in every detail. It's a place I would definitely return to.
Q: If you had to mention one small regret?
A: Not being able to bring pets (laughs). I really would have loved to bring Yibu along. But perhaps because of this, the stay felt even more like time exclusively for myself—undisturbed, uninterrupted, simply existing quietly in my own company.
